Exploring the dual nature of playfulness and reflection in my art If we know each other personally, you’d probably agree that I toggle between peaceful and playful, seeking light-hearted experiences as ways to connect with the world – while also being deeply impacted by the more harsh, solemn realities we all face as a society. My paintings are a reflection and active demonstration of how I seek this balance and straddle this spectrum. The playful use of color, texture, and imagination in my works like Sea Change VII (below) can be viewed at face value, as a poetic interpretation of a coastal landscape. When I painted this it provided me with a meditative levity. Conversely, these works offer opportunities for deeper reflection if one chooses to dig into the subject matter and inspiration behind the work – in this case, the impacts of warming water and sea level rise due to human influence on the environment.
