It's been some time since my last studio update. In the interval, my practice has continued to evolve alongside the ever-changing Maine coastline that inspires so much of my work. As we move deeper into spring, I'm eager to share what's been developing both in my studio and in my thinking about the natural world we inhabit. Two pieces I'm pleased to share are "Mud Season," a 30” x 40" oil and this other one (same size and material) that doesn’t have a title yet (any ideas!?). These works emerged during the transition from winter to spring. What began as an attempt to capture the tidal zone quickly evolved into something more abstract—a meditation on the interplay between mud, seaweed, and water. The way these elements merge and separate with each tide creates a dance of texture, luminosity, and reflection. I found myself less concerned with literal representation and more focused on the emotional resonance of these organic materials in constant flux, simultaneously breaking down and regenerating. I'm pleased to share that “Mud Season”, along with three works, will be included in upcoming group exhibition "Collect" at the Institute for Contemporary Art 522 Congress St, Portland, Maine, Opening Friday June 6.
